There’s no stopping you from getting a decent education. The previous statement is generically true because the Internet has made online education possible, although it doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be any obstacles. Whether you’re a working professional or a working student, you may welcome the idea of earning a degree online. Is it really possible to get a business degree online? The answer to that lingering question in your head is “yes!” This article will be a simple guide on how to choose an online business degree program.
Distance education is continually becoming a popular option for many people because it allows teachers and students to engage in a learning process without time and distance restraints, plus an option to learn at your own pace. Many universities have broadened their reach by offering business courses online.
Now that you’ve identified yourself as a non-traditional learner, you’re about to start a university hunt, which is rarely easy. Online learning in the United States is not a new concept, so you may come accross a long list of universities offering online business degrees. Business degrees include, but are not limited to, Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations Management. Many websites provide lists of universities, colleges, and institutions that offer different online business degrees. These lists would include degree offers, contact details of schools, and sometimes, the cost of a degree. From here, you could narrow down your search by selecting several schools that offer programs that suit your desired career path.
Once you have chosen several universities, it is vital that you validate the reputation of the schools. This process is a breeze with the help of accreditation. In the US, accreditation is done by govenment-sponsored agencies, independent agencies, or non-profit agencies that are recognized by the government. As required by law, the US Department of Education (USDE) maintains a list of nationally recognized accreditors that are reliable education authorities. Additionally, the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), which is a network of 3,000 colleges and universities, also recognizes accreditors. Therefore, when a school or university claims that it is accredited, check whether the agency that has done the accreditation is under the USDE’s or CHEA’s list of recognized accreditors.
How education is delivered varies with every institution that offers distance learning. Some would offer a traditional classroom setting, but is done online using web or video conferencing, direct-broadcast satellite, Internet radio, live streaming, or other technologies that could make it possible for a group to conduct a class. On the other hand, others are more flexible, allowing the student to gain access to course outlines, books, and other materials at his own time. In this mode of delivery, materials could be sent to the student using e-mail, video and audio recordings, or message board forums.
To identify which type of delivery suits you best, you may want to identify initially the reason why you are choosing to earn an online business degree. Are you a busy professional with a full-time job, who wants to earn a Master’s Degree or a PHd? Are you a high school graduate who immediately joined the workforce, and suddenly wanted to earn a Bachelor’s degree? Do you simply want to spend time with your family and avoid the stress of a physical class setting or a strenuous commute? Depending on your answers, you can now identify the best learning style for you, and this will further narrow down your choices.
At this point, you have a few universities that offer programs you like that are delivered in a way that suits you best. Now, you may want to consider the cost. If you’re on a tight budget, putting cost on top of your list is very reasonable. Some of the websites already include the cost of a program in their listings. Others would just give contact details and you’d have to contact the university itself to confirm the cost of their program. Usually, the cost of online degrees would be higher, but if you add up parking fees, bus fares and other expenses, the cost of an online business degree would not differ significantly from the cost of traditional education. However, there are various institutions that offer scholarship grants, student loans, and other forms of financial aids to non-traditional students.
Financial aids are as difficult to find as a suitable university. However, some websites are also created for the sole purpose of providing a directory of institutions that offer financial aid to non-traditional students, as well as their corresponding requirements. Scholarships are a financial aid that doesn’t have to be paid back, while student loans, as the name implies, would have to be paid eventually. Some institutions would require a certain grade point average, while others grant aid based on geographical location. When applying for financial help, take note of every bit of requirement to avoid wasting time and effort.
If you have previously taken a bachelor’s or associate degree, some of your previous course load may be credited. This is one major step when choosing an online business degree. To maximize the number of units credited, you may want to choose a program that is closely related to your previous course. However, another essential step that you need to make is to seek advice from both your transfer counselor from your previous school and to the admissions counselor on your potential new school.
As you start your journey to finding a university to pursue an online business degree, websites featuring college reviews, success stories, university and scholarship listings, and forums could be very helpful Remember, you need to consider including the reputation of a university, how education is delivered, how much it costs, and financial aids. For students switching from traditional learning to online learning, consider transfer credit policies of your potential online business institution. Keep these in mind, and you will soon pave a way to a better career.

Today there are droves of people looking to supplement their income or replace their brick and mortar style nine to five careers, and swap them with legitimate online jobs. A cursory search online on one of the major search engines will usually net individuals looking for real work to be barraged with online advertisements and false testimonies that give veiled promises of online riches for working just a couple of hours a day. Common sense will usually tell the typical online job searcher that anything that is too good to be true usually is just that, and should be ignored.

Freelance and Pay for Performance Jobs

Usually jobs that are offered online can be found in online classifieds, freelance fulfillment services, and forums for specialized areas of expertise. This is generally work that is paid for performance and most times when the project is complete so is the job at hand. You will constantly have to scan the previously mentioned areas for new jobs, even before your current one ends to perpetuate your daily work and keep your income going on a continuous basis. If a customer is happy with the result that was provided them, then it is possible to obtain a full-time position with them in the future. The down side is that depending on your abilities; it can be a feast or famine situation as work will be cyclical.

Customer Service Jobs At Home

There are large employers that offer legitimate online jobs to facilitate helping their clients for billing, service issues, and signing new customers to accounts. Corporations that employ home based workers will require the same rigorous pre-employment routine that you will go through with a job locally. Drug testing, background checks, submitting a job application, and usually more than one phone or online interview to secure the position. Generally you will need a state of the art computer system, and a few accessories that you may not normally own, such as a USB phone and headset, high-speed router, and broad band connection that will have to be tested for minimum download and upload speeds. Generally, these jobs will offer benefits once full-time status is attained after weeks or months of ongoing training.

Check with companies that sell services to consumers for the aforementioned job types, like satellite television providers, home and auto insurance carriers, medical insurance and cellular or wireless companies. Online jobs offered are usually at first on a part time basis and shifts are twelve hours on average. Depending on phone traffic and having to answer emails during your shift, you could possibly do freelance article writing in between customer service calls, and realize a higher rate per hour by combining the two revenue streams at one time.

I was asked the other day why I wanted to blog on Christian online business. That’s a good question. Christians are under represented on the web and I hope to help change that.

As I looked around the web for information on doing business from a Christian perspective I didn’t find much help. There are a lot of web sites that are selling products that are supposedly Christian based and maybe they are. But there are not many resources for people who really want to be successful with an online business based on Christian principles.

I have spent considerable time and money learning how internet marketing works and trying different techniques. Some things I have found work great and others not so great. I use this blog to let others know what I have learned and hopefully lessen their learning curve.

I think one reason Christians are under represented on the web is because of the reputation the web received in the first few years. The reputation was well earned. Most of the people selling things were either dealing in pornography or in scams to get people’s hard earned money. Some people had said it was like the Wild West with no laws and no rules. This is very close to the reality.

Starting in the late 90’s and continuing after the dot com bust, main stream businesses have started to realize that the web can be an effective medium for doing business. It is time for Christians to realize that although there may still be some bad sites and people on the internet we can have a positive influence. There have been a few missionaries on the web from the beginning but it is time for mainstream Christians to become a strong presence.

We can look at the web like the printing press. The printing press revolutionized the transfer of information. For the first time the average person could have their own copy of The Bible. At the same time the printing press has made possible the spreading of a lot of terrible, evil ideas. But we don’t say the printing press is bad. The thing that matters is how the press is used.

It is the same with the internet. As a group we can use it to spread the Good Word and counteract the negative aspects of other web sites.

I have been called to help other Christians learn to do business and spread the Gospel by their good works. If we operate under the teachings of Jesus we are doing his bidding in the secular world. Everything on this Christian business blog can be held up to the Light for scrutiny.

Join me as we build a presence on the web that furthers the Word of God. You can truly become a Christian business leader and support your family while spreading the Good Word with your own online business.
