I have always been interested in business books as I find doing business and commerce to be very interesting. There have been some real great books written over the years that can give one a very good idea of the ins and outs of what it takes to run a successful, long term business. When I was a young man my father-in-law gave me a set of business management books he had acquired during his 40 year tenure as an executive of some of the biggest US companies.

I read every one of them and I must say they gave me a very good foundation as I was just starting out in business and learning how to manage both others and myself. Over the past 30 years I would have to say things really haven’t changed that much although many MBA’s have fooled themselves into believing that the basic of business have changed and that has lead us into decline in this country. We no longer strive to make the best product for the our customers instead the whole game has become how to trick our customers into buying the inferior products we imported from China or India. Hopefully, the new generation of business managers will understand that there are things more important than next quarters numbers and that building a long term relationship with your customers really is the basis for a successful company.

One of the great advances in passing on the time honored business ideas is the business etextbook. You can easily load several books into your reader and then have them at your fingertips at any time. Today’s men and women in business do not have the luxury of specializing in one discipline, they have to be able to wear several hats during their work day. I find having a few different business ebooks going at the same time helps me to keep my mind flexible. If I have a marketing book, a personnel book, a finance book and a strategy book all at my fingertips then I can easily open the one for the area I need some inspiration for at that time. It is really a great way to make the time pay while waiting for your flight and also at cruise altitude.

The current ebook readers are light weight and very easy to view with the new screens. I think within the decade the vast majority of all reading will be done electronically because it really does make the most sense. Finding a good selection of etextbooks can be a hassle but that is changing. If you are interested in making the most of your study and reading time then visit the link above and start on your way to relearning what the master business builders have known for centuries.

I have heard some people say that Christianity and business should not mix. There is nothing that could be farther from the truth. Even Jesus was a carpenter before he started his known ministries.

To say that a Christian should not be in business makes no sense what so ever. In fact, through out history almost everyone was in business for themselves. Think of the butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker. Up until the industrial revolution the vast majority of people ran a small business of some kind.

If anything, we need more Christians in businesses promoting Christian values. The biggest problem with business today is the loss of honesty and integrity. The motto “Money At Any Cost” has infected our business culture precisely because we are no longer guided by our Biblical values.

In his book Doing Business By The Good Book, David Steward does an excellent job of showing how to apply the Bible to an online Christian business opportunity. “Jesus’ teachings were not meant to be spoken only on Sunday,” writes Steward, CEO of World Wide Technology Inc. Rather, those teachings were meant to be implemented everywhere, including the workplace. In this book, Steward shares 52 biblical principles in short, easy-to-read chapters that can be digested once a week for a full year or devoured in one sitting. He has a real knack for helping readers see how biblical principles relate to those experiences and to contemporary business issues.

As Abraham Lincoln said, “God is the partner in all great endeavors.” The fact that we are not bringing God into all aspects of our life is why this current “Me First” attitude has polluted our society. We have got to put God back where He belongs. Everywhere. Including in our businesses.

This book is David Steward’s own story of how these 52 principles impacted his personal and family life to eventually build World Wide Technology, Inc., into a privately held billion-dollar company. If you have any questions about Christians in business, read this book now.
