If you want to have success pursuing online Christian business opportunities you must have traffic come to your site. That means you must have visitors coming to your site to see what you have for sale. Once the customers get to the site you must sell them. This is known as conversion.

Traffic and conversions are the two main areas of focus for your business. You have to get people to view the site and you have to get people to buy. Remember, we are dedicating this blog to operating Christian websites that make money. If you are not interested in making money with your site that is fine and you are welcome to continue to visit and learn what you can. But we will be concentrating on generating revenue while staying true to our Christian tenants.

We will be learning about conversion at a later date. Today we are going to start our journey into SEO or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a broad topic that deals with doing things to get your website to show up on the first couple pages of results when someone types in your keyword. SEO is really all about getting your website to rank on the first page of Google. Preferably we want to be listed in the first 3 or 4 spots on the first page. Why do we want to show up on the first page in the top spot? Because the first search listing on the first page gets about 40% of the searches and the number of searches decreases from there.

There are people who spend years studying and implementing SEO in order to get websites to get a good ranking. It is a massive subject and it is always changing as Google changes their search criteria.

One of the best SEO experts I have found on the web is a guy who goes by the nickname Gizzly (like the bear) and lives in Canada. This guy is absolutely amazing. If you are interested in getting an in depth education into SEO, go to his blog, start at the beginning of his posts and read all the way through. By the time you are done you will know more that 99.99% of the people online. (Read that as your competitors).

There are two broad categories of SEO, on page and off page. On page SEO has to do with the things you can do on your website to make Google love you. Why do you want Google to love you, because when Google loves you it sends you traffic. The more it loves you the higher you rank on the search result pages and the more likely it is for someone to see the link to your site.

ON PAGE SEO FOR ONLINE CHRISTIAN BUSINESS

On page SEO includes such things as having your keyword in your URL, having your keyword in the title of the page, having the keyword in the title of the post if it is a blog, and using the keyword within the body of the page.

The more Google sees your keyword on the page the more it thinks your page or website is about that keyword. Therefore, the higher you will rank when someone searches for that keyword. No matter what online Christian business opportunity you are targeting you must get the SEO right on your page.

We will go over this more in a later post. Today is a primer for people with a Christian business or who want to have a Christian business but do not understand SEO.

OFF PAGE SEO FOR ONLINE CHRISTIAN BUSINESS

The second type of SEO is known as off page. The main emphasis in off page SEO is getting backlinks. Backlinks are when a website owner puts a bit of text on their site that takes the visitor to another site when it is clicked. For example, the MAKE MONEY link for Grizzly’s blog above is a backlink to his blog. When Google’s web crawling spider sees that link on this page it will give Grizzly’s site credit for being more important because I found enough value to add a link. The more back links a website has the more important Google thinks that site is and the higher it is listed in the search pages.

A web crawling spider is just a computer program that is constantly going out and looking at every page on the internet. While looking at the website the spider keeps track of what words are on the site and how many back links the site has, among other things. The program then uses this data to determine how important the page is and thus how many visitors it will get.

So basically there is on page SEO and off page SEO. You must optimize your website for both in order to get the most traffic possible from Google.  You probably will not be successful with an online Christian business opportunity if you don’t implement SEO.
