Top Online Business For 2010

Choosing a particular top online business for 2010 is very difficult because there are so many different categories you could look into.  Autos are very big, home improvement is big, and of course entertainment and celebrities.  All of these niches have thousands of sites with thousands, even millions, of visitors every single day.  Choosing a single category really would not be fair because there are many others such as gaming and online dating that also fill the bill as very successful niches. There are literally thousands of online business opportunities available to you.

If you look at all these different areas though you can break them down into two main groupings.  The top online industries are going to be sales sites because people are finally getting comfortable buying on line and using their credit cards, paypal, etc.  This is going to revolutionize how we buy products in the next couple of years as more and more websites are developed to cater to our needs and more and more people become willing to purchase online.  The biggest roadblock is going to be getting people used to buying a product without holding it in their hand.  This is not insurmountable though.  Look at the big mail catalogs of the late 19th century and early 20th century.  Names like Sears, Penneys, Montgomery Ward.  These were huge, fabulously successful catalog companies which sold millions of dollars worth of goods every year.  They did it without the customers holding the item in their hands so people should become comfortable doing the same thing on line.

The second major grouping is in personal interaction and connection.  Everybody knows about the success of such websites as Facebook and the online dating sites but what is this really about?  It is driven by a desire to feel connected.  In times past, really all through history up until the last fifty years or so, most people were born, lived, and died within about a ten mile radius.  You couldn’t help but feel connected because you knew everyone.  There was basically very little entertainment so people actually sat around and talked to each other.  You knew who you were and you had people you could connect with.

This is no longer the case.  The TV shows that invade our homes every day have become our contact with others and that is really a cold reality.  If you can develop a site that allows people to become connected, maybe around some particular like or affiliation, then you can cash in on this feeling of loneliness that most people have.

This could very well be one of the top online businesses of 2010.

  • Good article! Its very true, people just don’t connect like they used to.As time goes on more and more people will look online for opportunities to buy.

I believe it will eventually get to the stage where the retail shopping we currently rely on will reduce by more than 50% and people will just buy online.

Its very important for people to learn how to target their website marketing now instead of being left behind.

  • I agree with the article,
People are becoming more comfortable online shopping, it also takes the pain away from dragging the kids through a shopping mall. I find I spend 3x as much money when I go to the shopping mall instead of online.
I have 4 kids so I find it imperitave that I find what I want without the hassle of driving from shop to shop trying to get the best price.

I am involved in an online shopping business that will be using the new web 3.0 technology to give all their customers the ultimate shopping experience. Lets just say you wanted to purchase a nintendo DSI. As a customer you will need to type it into the search engine, it then searches the internet finding the exact product requested and then gives you each shop that currently stocks the item from the cheapest and so on.
If you do not like the cheapest price you will then be able to enter a price that you are willing to pay for the item. As a shopper you will then be notified when the item is at the price you requested, then you will be able to have the item purchased and sent without having to do anything. It is all automatic.

Shopping is becoming more and more of an experience, not a daily chore.
